Going back to class after the holidays can also be motivating
After the holidays, it’s time to return to routine and go back to class. To make this transition smoother and more engaging, we present a free downloadable resource for Movers level (A1), designed to help students reconnect after the winter break while revising key content in a visual, communicative and dynamic way.
This resource allows learners to practise vocabulary, grammar and comprehension in context, encouraging active participation from the very first lesson.
What’s included in this resource
Warm-up: Talking About the Holidays
The resource includes a speaking warm-up with guided questions to naturally activate classroom conversation. Students can talk about the presents they received, their favourite gifts, or what they like doing in winter after school, all within a familiar and motivating context.
Listening – Listen and Colour
An activity based on the Movers Listening Part 1 format, supported by a colouring illustration. Anna and Tom are back at school wearing coats, boots and carrying presents. Students listen to the teacher’s instructions and colour different elements accordingly. This activity is ideal for practising listening comprehension, colours and visual vocabulary.
Vocabulary & Grammar – Prepositions & Winter Words
This section includes practical exercises with basic prepositions such as on, under, behind, next to and in, as well as sentence completion activities using winter vocabulary like boots, coat, bag, friends and present.
Reading and Writing at Movers level
Reading – Anna’s First Day Back
A short text following the Reading Part 4 format, with gaps and a word bank. Anna talks about her first day back at school and chats with her friend Tom about their holidays and presents. The section includes sentence completion exercises and multiple-choice questions to reinforce reading comprehension.
Writing – About You
A guided writing task in which students write two to three sentences about their own return to school. Prompts include how they felt, what presents they received and what they like doing in winter. A model structure is provided to support their writing.
How to use it in the classroom
This resource is ideal for use during the first week after the break, for pair work or learning stations, as a review of first-term content or as targeted practice for Cambridge Young Learners exams.
Free download
This material has been designed to make the return to routine easier through visual, communicative activities adapted to the Movers level, showing that going back to class can be both enjoyable and effective — entirely in English.
The resource is available as a free download.
